What can I expect with the 50 watt vs 15 watt? Looks like the 275 fits easier, but I always get the biggest of anything. I’m not that familiar with radio, so will the extra power triple the expected range, clarity, or?

Just dropping by to thank you for this thread. I got mine installed today and I am really happy with how it turned out. If only my brackets would get here I could but the finishing touch on it.

Update : I found a nice solution for my Mic. With the Mid package I had some room to the right of my radio and using a magnetic mount I was able to make the perfect set up for me. I can easily reach it and it secures great. And its not too ugly with I decide not to run with the radio on.

Check out this thread for answers to your questions. Mostly longer range, and TrailRecon has a good video showing this for the MXT575.

https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...-2-way-radio-install-photos-swr-report.60511/

Also keep in mind the terrain plays a huge part in the range. I am in wooded, hilly areas and chose the 275 as I doubt I can come close to reaching it's range due to the terrain. If I spent time in much more open areas the 575 would certainly be the way to go.

Yup, on the cowl at the A pillar, but not super thrilled at the cable routing, but works well and with this position the antenna is out of the drivers line of site which I like.

@Bronco Bax

I used the flush mount from Scosche. I removed the mounting piece from the back of the hand unit and then made it a big more flush with an orbital sander. I super glued the metal pate to the back of the handheld too..

With that being said there really isn't anyway of undoing the mod to the handheld after you do it. I have zero regrets and I still love the set up. I've been off-roading and been on some pretty rough roads with it never falling off.

I've had my eye on this one for a while:

https://magneticmic.com/product-info/
That's the route I'm going. With the 67 Designs medium arm and device end made for the magnetic mic mount plate. Figure I can take the whole arm off, or swing it to the side if not needed when not on the trail. Also have the AR SLAP on order to expand my accessory mount points so that the 67 Designs arm isn't center of my dash buttons or screen.

I was inspired by this thread so I figured I'd share my MXT275 install.

I found that the MXT275 fits perfectly with the existing screws on the bottom of the console.

I found that mounting the handset jack on the drivers side allows the cable to lay perfectly so as not to obstruct anything. Converted handset to magnet mount.

While looking to mount the GMRS as others have done on drivers side behind fuse panel I noticed a couple studs on the lower firewall. It is far enough from legs/feet and high enough off the floor. I was able to keyhole to holes on the original bracket provided for the GMRS radio to use. You can use these studs directly or make a plate to mount your unit higher. I used a couple washers for spacing, and 8mm nuts to hold down the radio mount.

Not too difficult, hides the radio and both power and antenna is a short run. (You can also hear from the speakers on the main body).

Just wanted to toss out another location possible option if not mentioned previously.
Pic taken during install/front access panel is removed.(wires now cleaned up)
Once panel is installed nothing is easily seen. I have the wouxum 1000
Which is larger than the midlands I am seeing.

Still have to figure out where i want to install the head unit.
Going to see how it works out if the is any issues I will build a bracket and put behind fuse box as others have. (Just a bit more difficult for my old ass to get up underneath and on the floor)

Here is the radio location I am testing out. Made a small bracket, bolted the head unit to and used Velcro to hold the bracket while testing. Easy test no drilling . I still like the overhead as well as on the rail. I just do not want to drill any holes. Seems to be nice , and I can still get at the charging ports…

I think you guys that mounted the antenna up front have the easiest solution. The holes in the firewall are already available and it is a short run.

I like the rear mounted antenna however I see to many people breaking the plastic clips when removing panels. I would be pissed if I started breaking clips. For now, I think I am going to run an antenna up front for simplicity.

I want to install the MX275 and wire it up to an aux switch, but I can't find anywhere that says what the amp draw is of the radio, does anyone know?

It should be fine on any of the 10 amp switches. I put my MXT 575 on the 15 amp switch (#2) just to be safe because It was really close to 10a if I recall correctly. But the 275 should be fine on a 10a.
