Ford also put the powershift DCT in the focus and Fiesta beside knowing they were faulty before hand....
Yes my daughters 2017 Focus trans had to be replaced under warranty and now at 70,000 is going bad again.....meanwhile my 2003 Chevy 4L65 trans went 304k without a hitch until the pump failed internally. It shifted perfect until that day...

So from this photo it looks like we will get actual mechanical linkage to the trans?, not fly by wire? good.

and.. SOL Strategy, is this saying if we want the 10R80 we are Sh*t Out of Luck? ;)

nope. I was too. Most disappointing news spec wise I’ve seen so far.
Build and price says 10 speed auto transmission standard with 2.7 and available with 2.3

And....
when I pick up my new Bronco it will have the 10R80 ten speed transmission Ford had promised.
Please show us in writing where Ford promised the 10R80. I'm always up for a good class action lawsuit. Maybe if we win they'll pay us in FordPass points.

To clarify what is seen in B&P, it looks like a transmission not yet seen before. I've attached photos below: 10R60 from the Explorer/Aviator non hybrid shown with the green (heatshield) a 10R80 from an F-150, and a 10R80 from the Police Interceptor.

Though it would appear that the Bronco bellhousing is different than any of the currently used ones, evidence via the lack of starter motor cutout which can be seen on the 10R60 in the Explorer/Aviator which is also in the same spot on the 10R80 in the Mustang. I believe the Bronco starter is on the passenger side (production chassis picture you can see a lump). There is also a 10R80 (the non MHT) that goes in the Police Interceptor that also has a cutout for the Explorers style starter but lower down. I know there was someone here from LTP and maybe they might be able to chime in on it because it would look like there are several different 10R60/80 case designs I am seeing. This all makes me wonder what new transmission may have been cooked up for the Bronco. All documentation thus far, even apparently internally as someone who accessed the part catalog said, points to it being a 10R60.

I will again do more poking around next time I get a chance to see one of the demo Broncos in person and hopefully before then someone else will come up with more.

I knew I was getting a 10 speed auto, I just thought it was the 10R80 from the Ranger/F150/Mustang. Didn't expect the Explorer transmission. I got excited when I started reading how much the mustang guys liked the 10R80 and then came back down to earth with this news. Not much info out there on the 10R60.

Yep I had one as well. Numerous problems, reflashes, new clutch packs, rebuilds.

This ^ I just assumed built in the same plant the ranger is, same engine as the ranger 2.3 so it would get the same transmission

No the Interceptor 10R80 starter location is on the bottom left (drivers side) of the bellhousing and is a notch cut out. The Bronco's transmission pictured in B&P and seen in chassis photos show a hump on the passenger side which is where the starter is bolted up so it can mesh with the flex plate. This design is identical to how the F-150/ 5.0 Mustang transmission is built. The current Ranger also uses a notch style starter opening.

See the attached of the Rangers 10R80, it's also got some differences.

I also included the 2.3 Mustang 10R80 which is basically the same design as the Explorer/Aviator 10R60. The 5.0 appears to get the one found in the F-150.

Thanks for the pics!

What I meant was I just assumed it would get the same transmission as the ranger

My thoughts are that it will be eventually. Considering the Bronco is a second generation T6 and the current Ranger is still on a 10 year old platform, maybe the upcoming Ranger will have more parity. It would make much more sense that way.
Look at the timing...the Ranger came out in 2018 and the new Explorer came out in 2019. The 10R80/2.3L combo was already being used in the Mustang, so it was just easier to port it over to then new Ranger, instead of waiting for the 10R60 that was coming out on the Explorer.

I'm willing to believe that the Ranger will use the same transmission as the Bronco and Explorer going forward.

yup I still think something changed obviously and Ford is going forward with the 60, unless the 80 is staying for just the HD truck stuff. I had a 19 A10 / 80, it was the best trans I have ever owned and I put it to real use. I am not too thrilled if we are getting a somewhat new trans design specially if the whole idea behind the Bronco was heavy duty everything, this seems to go against that logic. Time will tell, but at some point like every other trans, there will be aftermarket upgrade support.

I have serious doubts the Ranger will get bottlenecked down to a 10R60. It just wouldn’t make sense. At the end of the day the duty purpose of a Ranger is to be a truck and no matter what angle you spin on it the Bronco/Explorer just aren’t cut out for the same level of use.

I have no doubt that the next Ranger will still have a 10R80
Well, it is based on torque to the transmission....and the Bronco has a higher requirement than Ranger for that with the 2.7l. The new Ranger may get the 2.7 as an option too....but the torque requirement would then be the same.

To quote the original “Built Wild” launch video:
“BUILT with the toughness of an F Series (F Series aka Ford trucks) and the spirit of a Mustang”

Both of which have 10R80 10 speeds....

I’m sure the words: “toughness of an F Series” is very implicit, that they (Ford) are utilizing proven “tough” Truck (not car) parts in the Bronco.

Even the Explorer Police Interceptor utilizes a “tougher” trans (10R80)than the standard 10R60.

From the Ranger 10R80 truck to the F series 10R80 it is implicit that the Bronco was inherently based on “tough” “drive over any terrain” Truck parts i.e. the 10R80 (not an SUV 10R60) transmission.

Advertising can be subjective but “built to take on the most rugged terrain.....” does not imply the use of an “Explorer transmission”, but rather what they actually said “built with the toughness of an F Series”.

The “R” (Baja Racing) Bronco factory engineers stated multiple times they were using the same parts from the production Bronco vehicle. On three occasions they stated that was an 10R80 ten speed transmission....

I think any 9 year old can follow the logic here.....

For Ford to utilize the lesser 10R60 in the new Bronco is a strait out misrepresentation of what we were led to believe by both the launch video representation and the statements of the Ford race truck engineers.

IMO:)
