Clean intake valves with media blaster which you can get for about $300. Pretty easy job. Maybe at 75-100k miles.

I was hoping the oil catch can I installed would reduce the need for this.

Think it's in the owners manual as well. Oil and filter changes are going to be subjective if you're in a dusty area and/or drive allot of stop and go. I had my oil changed at around 3k miles just because new engine break-in and currently at 7k miles now and I think it's showing half life on the oil.

As for longevity??? there's a few threads already on here but it's a modern engine, should be good for at least 100k+ but who knows on the ancillaries like the turbo, etc. If you're worried then I highly recommend getting the extended warranty from Granger, this is my first new Ford and yes, I got the extended warranty coming from a Toyota!

There are plenty of Rangers out there around 200K miles. The 2.3L is a good engine, with good care it will last a long time. It will probably need a valve cleaning around 90K miles like any other direct injection engine. I would change the oil every 5K miles, just my opinion.

That maintenance schedule said to inspect the accessory drive belts at 100k miles. Has anyone else actually looked at them? They’re TINY!!! I’ll be buying a set to keep in my tool/extraction box in the back of my Bronco, just in case!! I’m in the 5k OCI camp also. When I did the 2nd oil change at 5k I also did a 5-tire rotation and serviced the front brakes (mainly to pull the shims between the pads and the brackets to coat them with anti-seize to keep rust from building up and making the pads stick). At 10k I’m service the rear brakes and at 15k will change the brake fluid.

Regular service should make our investments last a whole lot longer!

To me it's nearly a high performance engine, but if it suffers the fate of so many other Ford EcoBoost 4cyl's it may be an issue. Hopefully Ford fixed the 1.6 and 2.0 Ecoboost issue where the 2.3L won't have the same issues. But there are plenty of videos that clearly show the cooling to be an issue .

It certainly won't hurt having one installed! I installed one on my 2.3 as soon as I got it and change my oil every 3k miles. I have a little over 16k miles on it now and it's collected about an ounce of oil, 1 ounce that isn't turning to charcoal on the backside of the valves!

Whats the best one to get?

There are several on the market but I went with the one from Mishimoto. Some people don't like that it's mounted behind the engine on the firewall, but with all the congestion in the engine compartment the last thing I wanted was it up front! It's not that big of a deal to reach over the engine to get to it. You want the catch can on the same line as the air/oil separator, it will catch oil. The one that Ford performance sells is on a different line. I get confused on all this crap these new engines have but if you do some research on this forum you will figure it out. You can also get ahold of Mishimoto, they will set you straight. A lot of people here will tell you they don't work because Ford has the air/oil separator already, all's I can say is mine catches crap I don't want going into the intake!

The local dealer here (Beaufort/HHI) had no desire to deal at the beginning of the Bronco frenzy so I ordered from Granger and had shipped here in SC! Have little options for service around here though, so far no issue with them with the one oil change.

Yeah, Walterboro is where I went (I"m in Charleston), invoice pricing and no dealer fees. Great guys, highly recommend!

If your concern is how long you can get by without a mid five figure repair bill, I’d worry more about the longevity of the automatic transmission, if you have one.

I don’t think he needs to worry about a $50,000 repair bill. Don’t scare the man!

I grew up changing the oil every 3K and doing full rebuilds at 150K. Times have changed. Motors and oils have changed. Now you change every 10K and go over 200K on an engine.
I change my oil every 7.5-10K and have no worries about longevity.

My nephew changes his oil every 10k in his Tacoma and has 200k+on it. A Ford product isn't a Toyota, I'm changing every 3k in my Bronco!

The non-turbo cousins of this engine regularly go 300k. I don't spend a lot of time in boost so I'm hoping 200k is a reasonable goal. I have about 15-20 years to go to hit that number.
