We actually know quite a bit about the cause, If you read through all the reports it's pretty obvious. The plant will have received several cores by now, and failure analysis is done. Not a running problem/lean out/timing induced detonation for sure...we can rule that out at this point, due to the fact that @International_George had his fail on shutdown, and pics posted in one of the other threads I can't seem to find right now. Improper heat treat is the "word on the street", and that theory still holds water at this point. I'm still hoping a few dealerships will tell whether it was intake/exhaust or both
I had not heard that word on the street. It sounds like another theory with a little bit of data to support it I guess.
Though it doesn't make sense how that could affect builds over 4-5 months, unless all of these are gonna fail, and soon.

** threads covering their repair experiences - (lines 17, 10, 12, & 1)

- so far the engine build-dates run 21159 - 21224 - see how to read Engine Ser#

- maybe the frequency of failures seems less than last month ?
- in October a Ford employee (@Jay3630, deleted soon after) made five posts re 'bad batch of brittle valves' - 'April batch' - see posts #1, #2, #3, #4, #5
- if the failures are caused by 'bad valves', maybe that 'April batch' has been working its way thru the system - then the problems could subside

If Your Engine Fails - dealer service of course - also :
- good to call Ford Customer Svc - expedite repair, communication, cover rental
- good to send VIN & full name to @Ford Motor Company here in B6g
- and the engine ser# would be very helpful in B6g build-date tracking efforts

example Engine Ser# Labels -

engine ser# & build date 21160 c.jpg

engine ser# & build date 21308 c.jpg

- B6g trying determine if the failures are confined to a range of engine build-dates
- maybe they were all built in same couple months ? - see also 2.7 Failed Engine Tracking Thread
- for eleven of the engine failures we have the build-date info

Have folks been honest what they have been doing when these blew. Did they run a break in period, etc?

Where are you seeing 4/5 months? we don't have all dates yet, but I see 6/8 to 8/12 so far.
BTW I walk some pretty shady streets!

That makes sense that Ford will do nothing as usual, maybe wait for the class action.
But resale value hit? Nah, every failed engine will have a new replacement.
For the ones that don't fail before 3 years, I predict a lot will "fail" in that last month of warranty, ygm?

No Ford doesn't do that. AFAIK Honda is the only one that still does that...could be others, but I have only seen VIN tags on Honda/Acura motors

If someone is buying a used V6 Bronco in a few years, will they prefer the one with an original engine with say 30k miles on it, or the one that got a new engine at 5-10k miles?
I don't think a V8 is going to happen btw.

I'm seeing May through August, but I suspect the recent fails with no listed date yet are later.

Honestly, I don’t think it matters if they drag raced them for the first 2000 miles. This shouldn’t happen under any circumstance.

He's talking about a batch of valves from April only.
I highly doubt those were still being put in the engines built in August that failed, maybe that's just me though.

The so-called “word on the street” was actually posted here on the forum by an alleged Ford employee at Ford’s engine plant in Lima, OH, where the 2.7L engines are built.

This is what he said…

In a prior thread, posted a few weeks before, he had elaborated on his alleged employment at the Lima plant, which I have no reason to believe was untrue…

He deleted his account the very next day, presumably under threat from FoMoCo for violating the Company’s internal policies.

Does anyone have an engine built within those dates with > 5000 miles. I wish we had that statistic to see how bad the problem is.

I did see that...however I heard what I heard on a "completely different street, in a different part of town"😉

I highly doubt his information was either complete or current, since he appears to have been working in production, assuming the engineers were doing the tear-downs of the returned cores.
I wonder if he knew anything or was just going on rumors, like us.

maybe 22 out of 30,000 is just "normal" failure rate.

would be strange for engine failures specific to bronco considering how the internals of the engine are likely the same in all the other cars using the engine
