Front locking differential

I have an Outer Banks 4 door with a rear locking differential. I got stuck in my driveway three or four times this winter a locking differential would be nice.. wondering how a person would find out my gear ratios 4.27? so I can match the front with maybe a used one.... I know there's the cost of the differential and the pigtail but what else is involved? Is there gaskets and seals? How hard of a job is it?

Buying a winch and a new front bumper is probably more than the differential....lol is the sway bar disconnect a separate unit from the differential or do you have to have a special type of differential? Just trying to weigh out my options.

Sway bar disconnect is a separate unit.

All ”used” front locking diffs will be 4.7 ratio (only available in Sasquatch, ok non Sasquatch badlands also) and it is completely different front assembly and axles (m210)…only way they came…you can buy the assemby and axles from ford performance or Dana in different ratios but I don’t think 4.27 is available so a rear change would also be needed…good luck!

You can find your gear ratio by running your VIN. 4.27 is common on Sasquatch models.

To add a front locker, you’ll need the diff, wiring/pigtail, switch, gaskets, and gear oil. It’s not an easy DIY gear setup takes skill.

Sas is 4.7, not 4 27...you would be better off trading it in for a sas or badlands and keeping a warranty

Curious as well, a front locker seems extreme for driveway use. On the other hand a slippery Starbucks drive through, when you need coffee you need coffee, engage lockers.

I really hope you are not running the OBX street tires.

That being said as others have stated you would need to match the front and rear gearing so it would be two diffs you are buying.

I would be willing to bet you can find a take off bumper or even a nice new bumper plus the winch and still be well under the cost of install, parts, and software needed to do the axle swaps.

Better tires and or chains are the answer. It’s gonna cost you a butt load to convert a Bronco with 4.27 gears to having a front locker, and then you’re going to find out that adding one tire pulling is not gonna help that much.

Well he is in Canada. Snow gets pretty deep. He needs a tractor with a snow plow lol.

We get a lot of snow. The driveway is about 450 feet long. It's not paved or straight. lol and it's not very wide tricky to navigate when I plough it with the quad not all the stumps are out of the road.... myToyo open country III are a crappy tire when it's slick or ice, my KO2 were a little bit better.... I just put on brand new falcon's 35" so we'll see how they do..... I have an extra set of wheels when the Toyo's wear down, I'll get a dedicated studded snow tire.... I rerouted my driveway so we'll see how that does....

I do have a tractor a Ford three cylinder diesel. Only problem is in -30 or -40 below. It doesn't like to start......lol

You're right, that's exactly what I wanted but in NWT 2022 you had to take what you could get, I even had to get the soft top. I had no choice.
