That amount is definitely worth turning in to your insurance.
The thief is the one that decided that their own life is worth less than someone else's property. Why should I have to pay more for my insurance and out of pocket because someone stole my stuff and they will never be prosecuted.

Had a buddy riding his dirt bike on a public trail in Florida and someone strung barbed wire across the trail at neck height, it was on a straight away where normally he’d be hauling @ss, he had slowed down for another buddy to catch up when he hit it. Cut his neck up good.

Question: wouldn't the drilling cause sparks? Are the tanks metal?Been seeing the stories in the news about gas tanks getting drilled by gas thieves. Unfortunately they hit our Bronco while the wife was at work. They got spooked off, thus all the fuel on the ground and the Fire Department. Question is, once it is fixed what after market skid plates cover the fuel tank the best? in the picture you can see they drilled in to the side, so something that comes up high on the sides would be ideal. Something the thieves would look under and realize it would be too much work to drill.

Also sparks/arcing won't set off fuel if it's submerged (see submerged fuel pumps). Once the magic A/F ration is met... that's a different story
I'm honestly surprise I haven't heard of it more in CA. A few years ago when gas was close to $5/gal it was happening all the time. I think they moved to more advanced methods of siphoning directly from the stations.
