A word from Ford on this would be nice. Guessing they are weighing the cost of bad PR from an engine recall vs letting it play out and replacing xxxxx # of engines as they blow.

Either way, this is not going to stay off big media outlets for long If it continues.
Unfortunately, it will probably take a family of four getting run over.

This is what I have said too. Some come in saying “it’s not like it’s locking up the wheels or catching fire. People are pulling over safely”. But what happens when someone has a Mack truck behind them and suddenly loses power? It’s going to be BAD. Folks have been lucky so far but eventually if these motors keep letting go on the highway, someone is going to pay a steep price.

Has anyone who used Twitter tried to tweet this to Levine? Interested to see if he’d respond……. Or block the user who tweets it!

As for the engine failure on the highway- people have been able to coast off safely SO FAR. Driving around a batch of tractor trailers could be a different story. I see them trailing cars by less than 5 feet constantly. If your engine blows suddenly and loses speed- good luck getting that truck to stop before crushing you. This could potentially be a huge liability issue for ford- especially if engines are blowing more than we’ve seen and they’ve ignored the issue.
I see HenryFordSays on Twitter (who must be the Henry Ford I see on this website?) trolling @Ford Levine, and CEO etc referencing this thread.

Important”

I have a 21209 Julian date...awhile back I reported an engine light and limp mode On my 4 door 2.7 on B6G.

when I took it to the dealer it was an under boost code caused from a turbo pipe not being connected whatsoever. I was driving around 65mph and kicked it in going up a pretty good highway hill and I believe I blew off the turbo pipe.

I‘m wondering if many of these engines have a partially connected turbo pipe causing a lean condition which may cause the valves to over heat. (But not enough to throw a check engine and limp mode) I have been studying what could happen if you have a turbo pipe sucking in air and a lean condition is one of the possibilities and could affect the valves.

if I had a 2.7 I would take it in and see if it may be sucking in air in one of the turbo pipes or running lean

i have 9000 + miles on the Bronco now.

** threads covering their repair experiences - (lines 17, 10, 12, & 1)

- so far the engine build-dates run 21159 - 21224 - see how to read Engine Ser#

- maybe the frequency of failures seems less than last month ?
- in October a Ford employee (@Jay3630, deleted soon after) made five posts re 'bad batch of brittle valves' - 'April batch' - see posts #1, #2, #3, #4, #5
- if the failures are caused by 'bad valves', maybe that 'April batch' has been working its way thru the system - then the problems could subside

If Your Engine Fails - dealer service of course - also :
- good to call Ford Customer Svc - expedite repair, communication, cover rental
- good to send VIN & full name to @Ford Motor Company here in B6g
- engine ser# would be very helpful in B6g build-date tracking efforts

example Engine Ser# Labels -

Ford Bronco 2.7L blown engine failure list . . 68 so far [Updated: December 13, 2022] 14657095

- B6g trying to see if the failures are confined to a range of engine build-dates
- maybe they were all built in same couple months ? - see also 2.7 Failed Engine Tracking Thread
- for 13 of the engine failures we have the build-date info

Wow, this a great reference regarding the blown engines. Thanks for the hard work. I was purposely avoiding getting up to speed on this as I have been enjoying my Bronco too much to want to focus on the negative but am now trying to get prepared. I assume yours is good so far? How many miles do you have? I ask because if I am reading this right, my engine was built two before yours. My number is 21306 and I also have a 4DR black diamond. Thanks!

Which pipe? Coming off turbo, and which side, or going in/out of intercooler?
